Courage, Innovation & Circularity
- Two inspirational cases from forerunners in circularity -
Moving to circular economy requires unconventional thinking, bold moves, new types of partnerships and a lot of courage. To inspire you to take the steps towards the circular business models, we have invited two inspirational speakers to share their stories.
Tom Szaky is the founder and CEO of Terracycle, a global leader in the collection and repurposing of complex waste streams. But as Tom says himself, recycling is only a short-term solution and it doesn’t solve the root cause. This is why Tom founded the Loop Store, a completely opposite approach to Terracycle.
Loop Store is founded on the idea; What if you could get your everyday essentials delivered to home without creating any waste? Also, could this kind of way of selling products make business sense? Some of the world’s biggest consumer brands embarked on this a year ago, when they started selling everyday products like shampoo in reusable, returnable packaging instead of single-use plastic to see if customers would buy it. This was a radical step to test the fundamental changes on how they package and deliver products.
Our second keynote speaker is creative entrepreneur Carla Cammilla Hjort, who is the visionary behind Space 10, Ikea’s innovation lab in Copenhagen. Space 10’s mission is to investigate the future of urban living by detecting major challenges that will impact people on a global scale, and explore possible solutions. The overall goal is to create opportunities for a better and more sustainable way of living in the future.
We want to encourage you to take actions, so join us to listen to how Tom and Carla have transformed businesses!
SPEAKERS:
TOM SZAKY, FOUNDER & CEO OF TERRACYCLE
Tom Szaky is founder and CEO of TerraCycle, a global leader in the collection and repurposing of complex waste streams. TerraCycle operates in 20 countries, working with some of the world’s largest brands, retailers and manufacturers to create national platforms to recycle products and packaging that currently go to landfill or incineration.
In May 2019 TerraCycle launched Loop, a circular shopping platform that enables consumers to shop for household products in durable, reusable packaging. Loop is available in Paris, France, the UK and the 48 contiguous U.S. states, and is a key step in helping to end the epidemic of waste that is caused by ‘single- use’ consumption. In 2021, Loop will become available in Canada, Japan and Australia.
